We recently decided to make the switch to R32 refrigerant. To keep you in the loop, we want to explain why we’ve changed to R32 gas and what this means for your business.
What is R32 refrigerant?
R32 gas is an alternative refrigerant to R410A, which is currently the standard option in the industry. Although there are still some systems that aren’t compatible with R32, the gas can be used on most new machines and equipment and is rapidly gaining popularity.
Many businesses are now making the switch to R32 – and it has been used in Japan for more than 2 years.
So why did we choose R32 over R410A?
Unlike R410A, R32 is made from a single component. This makes the refrigerant easy to use and handle because the ingredients won’t separate.
And because it is relatively inexpensive to produce, R32 is perfect for the next generation of air conditioning systems.
It has many benefits, including:
- Being easy to use, handle, reuse and recycle
- Low toxicity levels and high difficulty to ignite – increasing safety
- Compliant with F-gas phasedown and helps reduce environmental impact
- High energy efficiency, allowing for longer pipe runs and needing less refrigerant volume per kW.
However, the biggest benefit of R32 is its environmental impact. With a GWP (Global Warming Potential) of 675, R32 is less than half of R410A, which had a GWP of over 2000. Plus, by 2025 any gas with over 750 GWP will not be allowed in low-charge split air conditioning systems, so R32 provides a great way to keep compliant.
